The Art Behind Our Website: A Collaboration with Kevin Hunter

Here at The Whisky Room in Gourock, we believe that appreciating a fine single malt is an art form. The complexity of aromas, the depth of flavour, and the story behind each dram all contribute to a unique experience. We wanted our website to reflect that same passion and artistry. That's why we were thrilled to collaborate with a remarkable local talent who understands both the digital world and the soul of Scotland: the artist and web designer, Kevin Hunter.

Why Kevin Hunter?

Choosing a web designer was a big decision. We needed someone who could not only build a functional and user-friendly site but also capture the essence of our brand. Kevin Hunter was the perfect fit. As a renowned artist, his work is deeply inspired by the stunning landscapes of Scotland—the very same scenery that shapes the character of our national drink. His ability to translate the rugged beauty of the coast and the dramatic light of the Highlands into evocative paintings is unparalleled.

This unique artistic vision, combined with his technical expertise in web design, meant he could create a digital space that felt authentic, atmospheric, and deeply connected to the world of whisky. He didn't just see a website; he saw a canvas.

The Design Process: Blending Art and Technology

Working with Kevin was a truly collaborative process. We started with the feeling we wanted to evoke: the warmth of a cosy dram on a cool evening, the heritage of the distilleries we champion, and the modern, welcoming spirit of The Whisky Room itself.

Kevin took these ideas and masterfully wove them into the site's design. The colour palette is drawn directly from his paintings, featuring earthy tones, deep blues, and warm, amber hues that echo both the landscape and the liquid in the glass. The clean, intuitive layout ensures a seamless user experience, while subtle design elements and high-quality imagery of his work create a rich, immersive atmosphere. He understood that, like a good whisky, a good website needs both substance and style.

Hi, we are Allan and Giulia, the owners of The Whisky Room! We pride ourselves on being whisky nerds and selecting whisky and spirits from independent bottlers and distilleries, not the brands you’d normally find elsewhere - each bottle is researched and hand-picked for its taste, provenance and reputation.

We love nothing more than chatting about drams so pop in for a dram and chat. There are always lots of interesting whiskies and spirits to sample and plenty of bottles to peruse so jump on the bus or hitch a lift!

We have been whisky enthusiasts for a long time and turned our passion into our livelihood – we previously travelled long distances to visit whisky shops so knew there were plenty of others locally who would be delighted to be able to visit a local shop to chat drams and buy in-person rather than online.

Choose from a huge range of whisky, gin, rum, vodka, bourbon, grappa and cigars from local producers, throughout Scotland and across the globe. If you are looking for a wee gift, there are miniatures, gift packs, glasses and distillery maps. There is a gift to suit every budget and taste so if you don’t know what to buy, pop in for a chat so that we can offer bespoke recommendations or buy a gift voucher online or in-store.

Whiskies include a range of drams from every Scottish whisky region; from a smooth sherry dram to an Islay Peat monster, from a 30 year old single malt to a non-age statement blended malt. Gins are available in a range of botanicals and strengths, all with their individual twist on the perfect gin and presented in beautiful bottles! Choose from a range of spirits from local, Scottish, European and US distilleries. Cigars on offer are from Cuba, Nicaragua and Honduras.

There are regular tasting events curated by distilleries and bottlers and hosted in key locations in Inverclyde. Tickets can be booked online or at the shop. and make great gifts.

If you see something you like, you can order it online for collection at the shop so you won’t miss out if it is a popular item. Gift vouchers and event tickets are available online and in-store if you can’t decide which bottle to buy!
