Rosebank Distillery, often referred to as the 'King of the Lowlands', was established in 1840 in the heart of Falkirk. After closing in 1993, it was rescued and re-opened by Ian Macleod Distillers in 2017. Rosebank’s historic reputation rests on its bright citrus notes, delicate florals and silky texture.
Release 1 of Rosebank’s celebrated Legacy Series marked a defining moment for collectors and Lowland whisky enthusiasts alike. Distilled in 1990, just a few years before the distillery fell silent in 1993, this expression represents some of the final spirit produced at the original site.
Triple-distilled in the traditional Rosebank style, the whisky matured for three decades in a combination of refill sherry and bourbon casks, allowing the distillery’s naturally elegant and floral character to shine rather than being dominated by oak. Bottled at a confident 48.6%, this first release set the tone for the series: refined, luminous and unmistakably Rosebank.
Nose: Soft and creamy with notes of caramel wafer, vanilla pod and gentle nutmeg, lifted by citrus zest and honeyed floral tones.
Palate: Delicately structured yet expressive. Pear, light syrup and chamomile mingle with subtle oak spice, delivering both freshness and maturity in equal measure..
Finish: Long and graceful with candied violet sweetness, orange peel and a faint cooling hint of mint.
