Made, matured and married on the Isle of Harris, this signature single malt captures the fresh, lightly peated character of the Outer Hebrides. Matured in first-fill bourbon barrels from Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace alongside Oloroso sherry butts, the component whiskies are blended and returned to cask for at least 12 weeks to marry. Expect a welcoming combination of butterscotch, bright fruit, floral sweetness and gentle spice, balanced by the distillery’s distinctive dry, flinty character and a delicate wisp of peat smoke. 
Nose: butterscotch, iced cherry Bakewell tart, bright fruit and delicate floral notes.
Palate: rich buttery caramel, sweet clove and ginger, balanced by a dry, flinty character.
Finish: long and creamy, with a gentle hint of Outer Hebridean peat smoke.
The Hearach is the first, historic single malt whisky from our island distillery and the Isle of Harris. Like the iconic Harris Tweed cloth created here for generations, our first historic whisky is woven from the hands of island people and the place we call home, intimately intertwining to produce an elegant spirit of complexity and character. This special connection between people and place continues to this day with every drop of The Hearach created by Isle of Harris hands here in the Outer Hebrides. Our recipe uses spirit matured in ex-bourbon casks, oloroso and fino butts.

Nose: The smell of burning peat instantly connects with welcoming firesides of aunts and grandparents, with a beautiful sweetness like wildflower nectar, freshness from sea-air blown over summer machair lands, and hints of boiled ‘church sweeties’ such as pandrops, Werther’s Originals and barley sugars.
Palate: An unfolding of hard-to-pin-down flavours — refined sweetness and coastal freshness that develop in the glass peat, sweet nectar, and seaside character.
Finish: A reflective finish that lingers with island-inspired flavours that recall warm memories and characterful complexity
