A benchmark in Japanese single malt whisky, Yamazaki 18 Year Old is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and complex expressions to emerge from Japan. Crafted at Japan’s oldest malt whisky distillery, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, this expression showcases the depth and precision that have come to define the house style.
Matured primarily in carefully selected sherry casks, Yamazaki 18 is rich, layered and contemplative; balancing dried fruit sweetness with refined oak influence and subtle spice. It has earned global acclaim over the years, helping to cement Japan’s reputation on the world whisky stage.
This is a whisky for slow appreciation: structured, poised and beautifully integrated after nearly two decades of maturation.
Nose: Deep and inviting aromas of dark dried fruits — raisin, fig and date — unfold alongside notes of polished oak, sandalwood and a touch of incense. Hints of black cherry, treacle and dark chocolate add further richness.
Palate: Silky and composed. Sherry-driven flavours of sultanas and plum are layered with bitter cocoa, roasted coffee bean and warming baking spice. The oak influence is pronounced yet refined, offering structure without overpowering the fruit.
Finish: Long, elegant and gently drying. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit and subtle spice taper into a refined oak warmth that remains beautifully balanced.
