Tomatin has a long-established reputation for producing soft, fruity and characterful Highland malt, and this exceptional 1975 vintage was selected by Douglas Laing for its prestigious Old & Rare Platinum Selection. Distilled in December 1975 and bottled in March 2007 after 31 years of maturation, it represents a very different era of Tomatin production.
Bottled at a substantial natural cask strength of 55.6%, this is an exceptionally limited release of just 252 bottles. The red wine finish has added depth to Tomatin’s naturally fruity spirit, bringing darker fruit, gentle spice and mature oak alongside the soft, mellow character of the aged malt.
Presented in its original wooden presentation case with the accompanying certificate, this is a particularly attractive collector’s bottle as well as a serious mature single malt. The combination of a 1975 vintage, 31-year age statement, high strength, limited production and Douglas Laing’s Old & Rare Platinum Selection makes this a genuinely interesting piece of whisky history.
Nose: Orchard fruits, beeswax and mature oak, with developing notes of blackberry and plum.
Palate: Soft and mellow, with layers of ripe red and dark fruits, gentle oak, cherry and dark chocolate.
Finish: Long and lightly spiced, with lingering fruit, oak and a subtle leathery character.
