The original Ardgowan Distillery was founded in 1896, the current distillery filled its first cask in June this year following eight years of development, planning and construction. Built on the historic Ardgowan Estate, it is the first new distillery to open in Inverclyde for over a century.
Clydebuilt is a collection of limited edition whiskies blended and released over five years by Ardgowan Distillery. Shipwright is the second whisky in the series (released May 2021) and is a blend of single malts from Speyside and Highland matured in Oloroso sherry casks. This sumptuous dram was created by Master Whisky Maker Max McFarlane (previous lead whisky maker at Edrington, including Highland Park).
Nose: marzipan, leather, Ceylon tea, dried spices, tobacco and sandalwood.
Palate: starts with orange peel and rich dark notes of black cherries and treacle; followed by spicy notes and hints of old leather.
